Interior Designer Artist Spiritual Retreat Haifaa Tannous

1. Do you have a real Diva Den?

Haifaa Tannous

Yes I do, in spite of having a big house for my husband & I. I have my own small sanctuary or  Spiritual retreat.. It’s not really a den, it’s more like a studio, office, or library where I create, paint, work, read, relax & be in my own world.

2. Favorite Diva Quote?

“Reach high, for stars lie hidden in your soul. Dream deep, for every dream precedes the goal.” Mother Teresa
“Success is liking yourself, liking what you do, and liking how you do it” . Maya Angelou

3. What’s your Diva style?

My style is a mix, eclectic from being exposed to so many countries & different cultures throughout my life. I like the diversity in design. Mixing old with new and adding a soul & spirit to the space by borrowing elements from different cultures. If it’s done harmoniously giving attention to functionality, serenity & simplicity. The end result is going to be a unique, warm & interesting space!

4. How long did it take you to create your Sacred Space?

Well, we moved to the house after we built it in 1998. The room was an office that I’ve been using as my private room, but I feel I have out grown the place and I need to convert one of the extra bedrooms and add to it so I could have my fantasy room which fits all my canvas, pictures, art supplies books, computer….etc & add my own style to it. It is something that I am working towards whenever the moment is appropriate.

5. Expand on your fantasy room

My fantasy room is a space where I get energized & inspired. A space where I breath, grow, dream, connect with my own soul & leave the world behind. My ultimate goal for this room is overall warmth & harmony, practicality & comfort. All the elements that create an intimate get-a-way.
panoramic views of the hillside & the beautiful scenery outside becomes part of the room ambiance. Furniture should include a big desk for computer, comfy chair, wall to ceiling built in shelves & drawers. Big closet for my files. Next to it a closet, desk for paintings & supplies.. Also the room has to have task & ambiance lighting, whimsical pieces of accessories add a touch of playfulness, roll up bamboo blinds that filter light & introduce an element of texture, and travertine floors.

An ordered, yet interesting refreshing environment for me to enjoy & live in my own world.

6. What is your favorite item in your room

I would say it’s my oil paintings.

7. How much time do you spend in your sacred space a day?

I spend a lot of time I would say most of my working days since it’s a working place, studio….

8.What paint colors draw you, in your Diva Den?

The White & pop up colors every where from my paintings. To me a room is a like a white canvas you add color as you go. I love all colors when it’s in the right environment.

8. How has the sacred space changed / inspired you in your life?

Having my own retreat has a big effect on me spiritually, mentally & physically. Being alone with my thoughts meditating & connecting with my innermost character: my soul, gives me the most interesting, unique, and genuine vision. Gives ne the drive to think, create, work & be happy. There is no substitute for the creative inspiration, knowledge, and stability that comes form contacting your core of inner silence.
9. What key elements rejuvenate your inner Diva/Diva?

A picture of my family.

10.What is your dirty little secret? (we will keep your secret) (LOL) (Take the shame out and share)

I have lots of BIG secrets that I don’t want the whole world to know but dirty SMALL secrets…ah I don’t keep them…..not worth keeping I guess….haaaah….. Ah… there is one ..nobody knows that I like to watch America’s funniest home videos sometimes before I go to bed & laugh my heart out until I fall to the ground…. there… you asked!!!

  4. I loved the interview, and I first met the lovely Haifaa when we talked about the Roman ruins of Syria. Haifaa shared the most incredible Baklava recipe with me! I do know a secret about Haifaa, which she does not mention : Cashmere sweaters! 🙂 I love that Haifaa has all the books and art supplies she mentions, and her space sounds as delightful and interesting as Haifaa!
    Warmly, Philip
